Lost112: Korea's national lost & found portal, explained

Lost112 (lost112.go.kr) is the single most useful tool for anything lost in Korea. Run by the Korean National Police, it pools found-item reports from police stations nationwide — plus many transit operators, airports, and other institutions — into one searchable database.

What Lost112 is

When someone hands in a found item at any police station, police box (지구대), or substation, it's registered on Lost112. Many operators (subway, rail, airports) also feed their unclaimed items into it after a holding period. So even if the place you lost your item can't find it, it often turns up here.

How to search for your item

Go to lost112.go.kr and search found items by date, region, and item type (you can also browse photos). The site is available in English, Japanese, and Chinese as well as Korean.

How to report a lost item

You can register your own lost item on the portal so that a match can be flagged if it's found. Provide the date, place, and a clear description.

How to claim a found item

If you find your item listed, follow the contact details for the holding office (usually a police station) to arrange collection. Bring ID; you may need to prove ownership.

How long items are kept

Found property is generally held for a statutory period; if unclaimed, ownership can pass to the finder or the item goes to the state. Search and claim promptly.
